Ferrania Orto 50 is an orthochromatic ISO 50 B&W film from Film Ferrania (Cairo Montenotte, Liguria, Italy). Insensitive to red — skin tones bleach out, skies render very dark, red turns black. Ultra-fine grain, very high contrast, a very graphic look. Can be handled under red safelight illumination in the darkroom. Aimed at photographers wanting to explore the aesthetic of 1920s-50s photography.

High price
After the success of the P30, Film Ferrania launched Orto 50 to explore the orthochromatic heritage of their historic Cairo Montenotte plant — which had made ortho film for Italian cinema in the 1940s-60s. Orto 50 pays tribute to silent-era film portraits, with that very pale makeup and dark-rendered lips characteristic of orthochromatic film.
