FPP PolyPan F Dreamy 50

ISO 50 N&B ultra-fine intermediate
~10–13 €
The FPP PolyPan F Dreamy is an ISO 50 B&W film from the Film Photography Project (USA), based on a cinema duplicating film with very little or no anti-halation layer. This absence produces a characteristic bloom around highlights — a 'dreamy' glow effect sought for backlit portraits and landscapes. Ultra-fine grain. A very thin base — sensitive to light piping when loading. 24 exposures.
Atouts
+ A unique bloom/dreamy effect — intentional lack of anti-halation layer
+ Ultra-fine grain — maximum resolution
+ A dreamy look impossible to faithfully reproduce digitally
Limites
Very thin base — possible light piping — must load in dim light
Only 24 exposures
ISO 50 — abundant light needed
The PolyPan F Dreamy is one of the most singular films in the FPP catalog. The lack of an anti-halation layer is normally a technical flaw that manufacturers correct — but the FPP made it a distinctive aesthetic quality. The extremely thin base makes it sensitive to light piping: loading in dim light or a changing bag is essential to avoid fogging at the ends of the film.
