KONO! Monolit 64
ISO 64 N&B fine all levels
~12–15 €
The KONO! Monolit 64 is a panchromatic ISO 64 B&W film from KONO!, made by Svema/Astrum (Ukraine). Fine grain, high contrast, a characteristic Soviet aesthetic with a slight fog typical of Ukrainian emulsions. More accessible than the Monolit 3, suited to portraits in full sun and landscapes in abundant light.
Atouts
+ Fine grain — a 1960s-70s Soviet cinema aesthetic
+ High contrast — deep blacks
+ ISO 64 — more accessible than the Monolit 3
Limites
− High price — a niche film
− ISO 64 — sufficient light needed
The Monolit 64 offers the intermediate speed in the Monolit line — between the extreme ISO 3 and the versatility of ISO 100. Its look evokes 1960s-70s Soviet documentary film: marked contrast, slight fog, fine structured grain. KONO! collaborates directly with Astrum Ltd (Svema's Ukrainian successor) for production.
