Rollei Retro 80S

ISO 80 N&B fine intermediate
~8–12 €
The Rollei Retro 80S is an ISO 80 B&W film with extended near-infrared sensitivity up to 820nm. Its very extended IR sensitivity — beyond the Rollei Superpan 200 and Ilford SFX 200 — allows a very pronounced infrared effect with an R72 filter. Without a filter, it behaves like a high-acutance B&W film with a slight red cast. Fine grain, high acutance. Agfa Aviphot polyester base.
Atouts
+ IR sensitivity to 820nm — a very pronounced infrared effect
+ Loadable without total darkness (unlike true IR films)
+ Fine grain — high acutance
+ Available in 35mm and 120
Limites
Must be loaded in dim light
A dense R72 filter is needed for the full IR effect — long exposures outdoors
Retro 80S is based on the Agfa Aviphot emulsion, identical to the Superpan 200 but in a version offering even more extended IR sensitivity (820nm vs 750nm for the Superpan). It's one of the closest films to true infrared while still being handleable without total darkness. Much loved for landscapes with white foliage and black skies.
