The original, and the most legendary, version. ISO 50, saturation even higher than Velvia 100, absolute dramatic contrast. Used by some of the world's greatest nature photographers — Galen Rowell, Art Wolfe — it literally defined the landscape photography aesthetic of the 1990s-2000s. Some professionals still keep frozen stock.

Galen Rowell, after using Kodachrome throughout his career, adopted Velvia 50 the moment it launched in 1990 and never left it until his death in 2002. He systematically paired it with graduated neutral-density filters developed with Singh-Ray to tame its extreme contrast in mountain landscapes.
