Adox Scala 50

ISO 50 slide ultra-fine all levels
~10–13 €
The Adox Scala 50 is an ISO 50 B&W slide film from Adox (Germany) — one of the very few B&W reversal films still on the market. It produces true black-and-white positive slides (no negative). Ultra-fine grain, very high contrast, a rich tonal range with deep blacks and bright whites. Requires the special SCALA process.
Atouts
+ B&W slide — a direct positive unique on the market
+ Ultra-fine grain — very high contrast
+ Very deep blacks — bright whites
Limites
Special SCALA process — equipped lab or dedicated kit needed
High price for film plus development
ISO 50 — needs plenty of light
Very narrow latitude — precise exposure essential
Costly reversal kit
B&W slide film is a photographic curiosity — instead of producing a negative, the film directly produces a B&W positive that can be projected or scanned. The Adox Scala is the successor to the Agfa Scala (discontinued in 2004), created by Adox to keep this unique process alive. Its special SCALA process requires an equipped lab or a two-bath home development kit.
