ORWO NP7 400

ISO 400 N&B pronounced intermediate
expired stock
A fast cinema B&W film from ORWO (Original Wolfen), a bulk 35mm version without DX coding of the famous NP27 (400 ASA). Sold only in large 400-foot-plus rolls for the film industry, today respooled by specialized labs into individual cartridges. Marked grain, high contrast characteristic of East German emulsions.
Atouts
+ Fine grain — a classic East German look
+ An authentic historic ORWO emulsion
Limites
Discontinued — very old expired stock
Very rare
The NP7 is the cinema version of the NP27 — the same 400 ASA emulsion, but packaged for the professional cinema market rather than amateur photographers. Without DX coding, it requires a camera allowing manual ISO setting. Rolls found today often date from the 1980s and need about two stops of overexposure to compensate for age.
