ISO 800 N&B pronounced Expert
~9–12 €
The Marinette M105 is a panchromatic ISO 800 B&W film respooled by Les Ateliers de Marinette (Lyon, France), based on the Svema A-2SH — a Soviet surveillance cinema stock on an extremely thin base. Pronounced grain, very high contrast, a dramatic, very graphic look. The ultra-thin base needs careful handling during development.
Atouts
+ A repurposed Soviet surveillance film — a very dramatic, graphic look
+ Very high contrast — very deep blacks
+ A Lyon artisanal workshop — supporting French micro-production
Limites
Ultra-thin base — very delicate handling during development
Limited stock — irregular availability
Very pronounced grain
Les Ateliers de Marinette is a Lyon workshop, unique in France, that seeks out Soviet industrial film stocks and hand-respools them into recycled 35mm cartridges. The M105 is based on the Svema A-2SH — a Soviet aerial surveillance film whose extremely thin base was optimized for onboard cameras. This ultra-thin base is both its main technical characteristic and its main development challenge.
