~7–9 €
Lucky SHD 400 is a panchromatic ISO 400 B&W film from Lucky Film (Baoding, Hebei province, China). Moderate to pronounced grain, marked contrast, deep blacks. Its look recalls 1970s-80s B&W films, with a grainy aesthetic well liked in street photography. Very competitive price — one of the cheapest on the market. Compatible with any standard B&W developer.
Atouts
+ Very competitive price — one of the cheapest on the market
+ Expressive grain — an authentic vintage aesthetic
+ Available in 35mm and 120
Limites
Grain more pronounced than premium films
Less strict quality control than Western brands
Little documentation available
Lucky Film is one of the few Chinese brands still producing film. Founded in the 1980s, it supplied affordable film to Chinese amateur photographers for decades. The name 'SHD' (Super High Definition) is ambitious — in practice, the grain is more pronounced than premium Western films, but that's exactly the imperfect grain that will appeal to fans of an authentic vintage look.
