Flic Film UltraPan 18
ISO 400 N&B medium all levels
~8–11 €
The Flic Film UltraPan 18 is an ISO 18 orthochromatic B&W film from Flic Film (Canada), based on a microfilm or sound-recording cinema stock. Ultra-fine grain, very high contrast, a graphic look close to lith film. Orthochromatic — insensitive to red — it can be handled under a red safelight in the darkroom. At ISO 18, only very intense light (full sun, powerful studio lighting) allows handheld use without a tripod.
Atouts
+ Ultra-fine grain — maximum resolution
+ Orthochromatic — can be handled under a red safelight
+ Very high contrast — a unique graphic look
Limites
− ISO 18 — a tripod or very intense light is essential
− Orthochromatic — unconventional skin-tone rendering
− High price for a niche film
Flic Film offers the UltraPan 18 as a niche film for photographers who want to explore the technical limits of analog photography. The extreme constraint of ISO 18 forces a rare kind of photographic discipline — every frame becomes a deliberate act. In return, its near-invisible grain and extreme contrast produce images with a graphic harshness that's hard to reproduce any other way.
