Agfa (Allemagne)
Agfapan APX 400
ISO 400 N&B medium all levels
expired stock
A panchromatic ISO 400 B&W film — an original Agfa emulsion from Leverkusen, introduced in 1989. Classic cubic grain, balanced contrast, wide tonal range. Known for its warm, organic look, very different from the AGFAPhoto APX 400 that succeeded it. Reformulated in 2002 and 2004 before the plant closed in 2005. Available only as expired stock.
Atouts
+ A genuine Leverkusen Agfa emulsion — organic cubic grain
+ A warm, classic look
+ Wide tonal range
Limites
− Discontinued — expired stock only
− Reformulated several times — quality varies by batch
− Very rare
The original Agfapan APX 400 was reformulated twice (2002 and 2004) before AgfaPhoto's closure — each reformulation slightly eroding the qualities that made its reputation. Film photographers looking for 'the real APX 400' mean stock from before 2002, the most prized.
