ISO 64 specialty fine all levels
~10–13 €
The Rollei Blackbird 64 is an ISO 64 orthochromatic B&W film from Rollei/Maco (Germany), with extended near-infrared sensitivity. Fine grain, high acutance, strong contrast. Insensitive to red — can be handled under red safelight illumination. Used for document and architecture photography, and for the 'old paper' effects characteristic of orthochromatic film.
Atouts
+ Orthochromatic + IR sensitivity — a very dramatic look
+ Can be handled under red safelight illumination
+ Fine grain for an ortho film
Limites
− ISO 64 — needs sufficient light
− A very specific orthochromatic look
The Blackbird is Rollei's orthochromatic film — its name evokes the black bird, a reference to how dark red areas render on this type of red-insensitive emulsion. Its extended IR sensitivity sets it apart from classic orthochromatic films, giving landscapes an even more dramatic look.
